Health Professions Advising
The Coordinator for Health Professions will work with the faculty pre-health advisor and the Center for Advising and Experiential Learning to provide individual and group advising to students interested in pursuing acceptance into medical school, dental school, veterinary school, and other allied health profession schools (including physician assistant, physical therapy, and nursing). The Coordinator will teach courses required by pre-health students, as well as our signature Health Fellows program. The Coordinator will be responsible for assessment of program effectiveness, development of innovative initiatives to prepare pre-health students for their future career path, advancing efforts to support underrepresented students pursuing health professions careers and will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community partners.

Position Description:
Trinity College seeks an experienced, innovative educator and advisor to:
    • In collaboration with the Faculty Advisor to the Health Professions and the Director of the Science Center, provide advising for students and alumni interested in applying to medical or other health professions schools. This includes advising individual students and facilitating groups
    • Create programming in the form of events and information sessions to inform students about careers in the health professions and create community among these students
    • Teach our Health Fellows program. This unique program includes a course in Topics in Health Care, linked to a 30 hour per week clinical research experience at Hartford HealthCare and other nearby facilities
    • Teach other classes required for students interested in the health professions. This might include lifespan development, human anatomy, physiology, or other courses of interest. Courses will be taught in the academic semesters, the January term, and the summer terms.
    • Coordinate with Admissions, the Grants Office, the Center for Entrepreneurship, and other offices on campus to recruit and nurture student interest in the health professions
    • Serve as the administrator for the Institutional Review Board and IACUC
    • Work with local partners to identify and coordinate internship experiences
    • Work with the Faculty Advisor to the Health Professions and the other faculty on the Health Professions Advisory Committee to interview and compose letters for students applying to health professional schools
    • Be responsible for collecting data related to student placement in health professional schools and make recommendations based on these data
    • Serve as a campus expert and resource to students, faculty and staff on medical and health professions programs. Facilitate development of knowledge among other offices and academic departments regarding pre-health topics.
