About this Position:
Job Summary: The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is a partnership between the State of New York and St. Francis College which provides a broad range of services to NYS residents with the purpose of increasing access by minority or disadvantaged students to academic programs that prepare students either for licensure in the professions or for employment in scientific and technical fields. The CSTEP Director is responsible for administration, oversight and coordination of the program.
Work Schedule: The full-time, hybrid work schedule is 35+ hours per week, Monday through Friday. This position will generally be able to work remotely up to one (1) day per week. Flexibility in work hours is required to accommodate the needs of the Opportunity Programs Department and CSTEP Program throughout the College’s Academic Year, including, but not limited to, participation in specific weekend and evening events as requested.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversee all functions and activities of CSTEP, including policy and program development and overseeing supportive services provided to students
• Serve as the main point of contact with NYSED and ensure the program complies with NYSED guidelines. Maintain records and support data used for state and institutional programmatic reports
• Develop, oversee, and manage the program budget
• Perform regular assessments of program outcomes, student satisfaction, and retention. Implement changes and improvements as necessary.
• Work with the Office of Admissions to organize the recruitment process and participate in recruitment events
• Work with the Office of Admissions and Marketing and Communications Department on all outgoing messaging and communication on the program
• Supervise CSTEP support staff, student assistants, and peer leaders.
• Be the point of contact and liaison with faculty and department chairs to ensure students receive the necessary support.
• Provide counseling to students on academic, financial, social, and other matters while maintaining knowledge and sensitivity toward the academic, economic, social, cultural, and other needs of CSTEP students
• In coordination with the Center for Learning and Leadership, the STEM Resource Center, and the Assistant Dean of Science Education, ensure CSTEP summer initiatives are offered and meet the needs of students
• Working with the Center for Student Success and Center for Learning & Leadership, ensure advising and tutoring for CSTEP students is in place and accessible
• Working with the Center for Career Exploration, to ensure professional development and internship availability for CSTEP students
• Represents CSTEP during College events, including, but not limited to, Open House, Admitted Students Day, and Orientation programs.
• Represent SFC at regional and state professional organizations
• Organize CSTEP student events and celebrations
• Perform other duties as necessary
Pay Range: $70,000 - $75,000 per year
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree is required from an accredited program, preferably in higher education, curriculum development, educational policy, counseling, or a related area. Master’s degree preferred.
• Three to five years experience in program administration or management, implementing and overseeing academic support services for a diverse population of undergraduate students, counseling, opportunity programs, or a related field
• Experience in fiscal management and budgetary oversight
• Experience working with students from historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged groups.
• Participation in specific weekend and evening events during the academic year is required.
• Culturally sensitive, profoundly understanding and appreciating a culturally and economically diverse student community.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with students, faculty, and academic administrators.
