The Health Professions Student Center (HPSC) at Washington State University (WSU) provides intensive support and services to all WSU Pullman & WSU Global students, including our graduate students and alumni, who are interested in a career as a healthcare professional.
We invite candidates to apply for an Academic Advisor, to provide advanced-level professional advising for Pre-Nursing and Pre-Speech and Hearing Sciences. You will collaborate with others and/or perform professional duties in participating and/or coordinating the development, implementation, and/or administration of student service programs and initiatives including programs of recruitment and retention activities in pre-health representing the Health Professions Student Center at University functions. Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to work independently. You will provide guidance and advise students concerning career choice, course choices, academic major, and application process for professional school. Maintain good working relationships with faculty in degree programs at WSU and with admissions offices for the professional schools both at WSU and at other institutions. To best prepare students for a career in health care, this is a face-to-face position and is not a remote position. The position does require some evening and weekend work.
The successful candidate will begin as either an Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1 or an Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2 depending on their level of experience.
This position is located on the WSU Pullman campus in Pullman, Washington.
This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary:
Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1: $3,750.00 - $5,400.00
Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2: $4,058.00 -$ 6,092.00
Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
Required Qualifications:
Advisor 1:
Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years academic advising or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.
Advisor 2:
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years academic advising or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.
Required Qualifications for All Candidates:
Demonstrated knowledge of electronic student data systems utilized in Higher Education.
Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills which includes experience in public speaking.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office such as Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
Applicant must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates:
Knowledge of WSU student computer systems such as myWSU, WSU Imaging System, OBIEE and Outlook or equivalent knowledge or experience of student data systems.
Experience with recruitment and outreach.
Experience collecting and managing data.
Experience in Career development.
