Purpose

To coach UT Austin pre-health professions students regarding academic pre-requisites and non-academic components in their preparation for application to professional school. Participate in the Pre-Health Professions Pathways courses in the form of presentations, written resources, and meeting with students.

 

Contribute to the “Career Ecosystem” at UT through sharing knowledge and resources with Faculty Career Fellowes and Academic Advisors. Participate in ongoing efforts to scale services and resources for pre-health professions students. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.

 

Responsibilities

  • Stay current on admissions requirements across these disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Optometry, Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Cardio Perfusion, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Anesthesiology Assistant, and Podiatry through research of in-state and out-of-state professional schools. 

  • Plan and coordinate workshops and seminars for students in person and through livestream. Prepare recorded versions of workshops and presentations. Teach and present to groups (internal groups and external groups visiting UT) ranging in size from 25 to over 500. Conduct spring semester seminar for the Biology Scholars Program. Collaborate with HP Pathways faculty to refine curriculum and scale access to pre-health students.

  • Provide coaching individually and in groups to pre-health professions students as they progress toward and complete application to professional schools.

  • Develop, select, and utilize effective pre-Health Professions materials for students pursuing a health professions career. Use admissions data from Health Professions Schools to lead discussions with students. Disseminate materials and information about professional school preparation and expectations to students, staff, and faculty as part of the “Career Ecosystem”.

  • Represent health professions programs and services in on-campus and off-campus organizations, meetings and conferences. Work collaboratively with the other members of the “Career Ecosystem” (Faculty Fellowes, Academic Advisors, Experiential Learning Advisors, Career Coaches, other pre- Health Professions Coaches, and administrative staff.

  • Pull admissions data from various health professions application services, analyze the data, and develop reports. Work collaboratively with data coordinators in CNS and Career Successfully integrate data into the12Twenty platform. Package data to share with Career Ecosystem contacts. 

  • Supervise junior health professions coach. Hire, train, and coach. Provide feedback, evaluation and ongoing career development. Ensure entry-level coach’s understanding of the “Career Ecosystem” and health professions coaching within.

  • Lead spring seminar for the Biology Scholars Program.

  • Schedule admissions representative visits for coaching roundtable.

  • Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS.

 

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree and three years of experience in academic advising, career services, or pre-health professions advising. Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and excellence in oral and written communication. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Demonstrated ability in data analysis and reporting. Capable of researching and developing content, interactive exercises, and applying effective teaching methods for topics in professionalism and health professions for credit-bearing courses. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain relationships inside and outside the organization. Must be able to occasionally travel, including overnight travel. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Prior supervisory experience. Master’s degree or higher and more experience than above. Experience as a health professions advisor in a university environment. Experience working with health professional and graduate schools.

 

Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications

 

Working Conditions

General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students, staff, faculty and administrators both during and after usual office hours. Some evening and weekend work required.
