This leadership position is responsible for developing, shaping, and meeting the mission and vision of the Pre-Health Student Resource Center (PHSRC). The PHSRC is a campus and system-wide student resource that recruits and serves a diverse community of pre-health students with in-person and online education, programming, services, and products to prepare students for health careers. The Director provides the administrative and educational oversight of the Pre-Health Student Resource Center including oversight of the budget and development of funds to support priority programming, personnel, data, technology, and the physical space. The Director is responsible for representing the Center with leadership across the University system as well as in the community, educating leaders on the importance of preparing pre-health students for Minnesota and the nation's health workforce. The position reports to the Vice Provost for Academic Health Sciences.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides strategic leadership for the PHSRC that assures continuous quality improvement to advance the PHSRC mission, vision and values, and ensures alignment with University’s strategic plan and goals - 40%
    1. Recruit, train and manage PHSRC staff to ensure integrity, creativity, and high quality in the management of existing or creation of new services and products of the PHSRC.
    2. Review emerging health, healthcare, and workforce trends and be responsive to the needs of stakeholders in the development of the future workforce. 
    3. Conduct ongoing strategic planning, setting goals that advance the mission and vision of the Center.
    4. Develop and oversee PHSRC evaluation and data initiatives including course enrollment, student evaluation data, national application data, and workforce data.  
    5. Establish and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external to the University of Minnesota to further the mission and vision of the PHSRC
    6. Serve on or represent the PHSRC and University of Minnesota on relevant national or local professional venues (e.g. National Association of Advisors of Health Professions and Central Association of Advisors of Health Professions
  2. Assure the development and delivery of programs and educational services that serve diverse populations of students - 30%
    1. Oversee the design, delivery, and assessment of programs, workshops, and resources that enhance student learning, faculty development, and community engagement.
    2. Identify emerging trends in education and health careers and design innovative educational offerings that support students' career exploration and preparation.
    3. Support instructors in implementing best practices in teaching, curriculum development, and instructional design and use of technology.
    4. Oversee the development of all programs and educational services offered by the PHSRC assuring the human resources are sufficient to provide those services
    5. Support the continued development and growth of the Health Professions Pathways program, including the acquisition and management of space for the program. 
    6. Direct and approve program initiatives that respond to the need for interprofessional team work and competency development among pre-health students.
    7. Instruct in PHSRC courses where necessary.
    8. Develop and promote policies, guidelines, and educational tools that encourage ethical career exploration opportunities for students domestically and abroad.
    9. Oversees a curriculum committee that assures the educational offerings of the PHSRC are high quality and meet the education standards of the University of Minnesota. 
  3. System development - 15%
    1. Expand the work of the PHSRC to support the system campuses to develop transparent pathways for students from across the system to enter into a health profession.
    2. Support the PHSRC staff on the UMD campus to serve Duluth students to explore, prepare and apply to health professions. 
  4. Financial and administrative oversight - 10%
    1. Develop, review and monitor the PHSRC budget including: forecasting future expenses, anticipating changes that will result in fluctuations in income or expenses, and planning accordingly. 
    2. Allocate resources to meet priorities of the PHSRC, including ensuring educational offerings have sufficient and high quality instructors.
    3. Explore, plan, organize, and direct revenue generation to include fundraising, program development, and grant solicitations working collaboratively with the University development officers and the Foundation. 
  5. Provide national and statewide leadership on factors that shape the development of pre-health students - 5%
    1. Manage, synthesize, and distribute information about health professions including workforce data, trends and impact on the health of the population.
    2. Maintain an understanding of generational changes among students and student development theory to influence programs and policies for pre-health students. 

Qualifications


Required

  • Master's degree in health profession, management, or education, and at least 8 years of applicable experience in higher education or healthcare.
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience

Preferred

  • Terminal degree in a health profession, management, or education field, applicable work experience in higher education or healthcare.
  • Demonstrated budgetary management experience including preparation, forecasting, monitoring, and contract management responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience working independently on project or program management
  • Demonstrated experience interacting and collaborating with all level of an organization to promote initiatives 
  • Advising/coaching in health sciences
