The FSU Career Center is searching for a talented individual to join our team as a Career Liaison to the FSU College of Medicine and the FSU College of Nursing. Nationally recognized for its comprehensive career services, the Career Center prepares students for life after graduation through career advising, employability skills workshops, mock interviews, and a career development course. We also connect students directly with employers and graduate or professional schools through on-campus recruiting, career fairs, job listings, an online career portfolio, and a powerful network of Florida State alumni, parents, and partners.
As FSU expands programs aligned with FSU Health, this position will play a critical role in supporting the Career Center's health-focused initiatives and ensuring all students—especially those pursuing pre-health pathways—have equitable access to the experiences that shape their academic and professional success.
Responsibilities
This position serves as a liaison and primary point of contact between the FSU Career Center and an assigned academic College/Department, ensuring that students within those programs receive comprehensive, tailored career services aligned with their academic and professional goals working in partnership across the academic College/Departments to infuse career readiness within all current and future student engagement touchpoints.
This position also engages in campus events involving employers, alumni, and families to engage those stakeholders in career readiness services, programs and events building relationships with Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to deliver career readiness workshops to their membership.
- Develop innovative methods to engage the undergraduate student, graduate student, and alumni populations to explore professional possibilities and navigate lifelong career development. Cultivate relationships with hiring employers and academic program alumni to facilitate recruitment and hiring of Florida State University student talent for part-time, summer, seasonal, internship, and full-time hiring needs.
- As primary career services contact for students and alumni of an academic College/Departments, provide tailored career advising and holistic career support, individually, in groups, in-person, and virtually to the assigned academic College/Departments. Provide job, experiential learning, and graduate school searching and application process support to students.
- Assist students with developing professional documents including resumes, cover letters, and networking emails, as well as graduate school admissions essays, professional identity branding (such as LinkedIn), and professional portfolios. Coach students on interviewing skills, networking opportunities, evaluation of job offers, and salary negotiation skills, in addition to world of workplace exposure opportunities.
- Develop and conduct workshops, classroom presentations, and information sessions to help students identify and articulate their career readiness. Remain up to date on employment trends and career opportunities in relevant industries, including labor market trends, career competencies, and career readiness. Maintain accurate advising, workshop, and event records in the Career Center’s CSM.
- As primary career services contact for hiring employers and graduate school admissions recruiters of an academic College/Departments, identify and create strategic employer development and recruiting plans to deepen recruiting relationships for part-time/summer/seasonal jobs, internship/experiential learning, and full-time hiring needs. Develops relationships with key employers and alumni stakeholders ensuring the seamless integration of offered hiring fairs, branding opportunities, networking events, and career readiness programming, such as FSU Shadow, MentorFSU, EIRP, career fairs, etc.
- Develop and implement curated industry employer/alumni engagement events, such as industry panels and exploration networking events. Maintain accurate records for employer engagement and student outcomes related to recruiting partnerships and support the efforts to report on established metrics within the Career Center’s CSM.
- Continual outreach and relationship management leading to successful, ongoing partnerships with academic College/Departments stakeholders, including but not limited to academic advisors, academic internship coordinators, academic program coordinators, College/Departments leadership, affiliated student organizations, student, and alumni engagement coordinators, etc. Collaborate closely with staff, faculty, employers, and student clubs/organizations for programming and events specialized for career readiness of students within those academic programs. As a result, this position requires the ability to work occasional nights or weekends to deliver presentations to registered student organizations (RSOs) and/or evening classes in addition to scheduled networking events or career fairs.
- Continual outreach and relationship management with appropriate on-campus student support offices relevant to student interests within the academic College/Departments programs of study, such as Center for Undergraduate Research & Academic Engagement, Office of National Fellowships, Seminole Productions, etc. in addition to research centers and institutes offering experiential learning opportunities of high interest areas to the student population.
- Serve on Career Center, Division of Student Affairs, departmental and university committees as needed. Create and maintain a network in relevant professional associations at the state, regional, and/or national level.
- Assist in delivering core Career Center programs including teaching the career planning class, career advising, presenting workshops and support Career Center events, career fairs, programs, and services. Support FSU DSA and College/Departments student and stakeholder engagement programs such as orientation, preview day, welcome week events, family weekend, homecoming, etc. As a result, this position requires the ability to work occasional nights or weekends. Assess activities and outcome data for all career readiness efforts. Participate in other assessment activities as requested by the Career Center, College/Departments, the Division of Student Affairs and Florida State University.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and seven years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to seven years.)
