ROLE of the POSITION
Academic Advisor positions are responsible for providing academic advising to undergraduate students in individual and group advising settings. This Academic Advisor position provides academic advising and career/major exploration services to all UNLV students, including students in the Exploring major, non-degree-seeking students, and pre-professional students. Advisors support students in clarifying academic goals, selecting majors, and making informed decisions that promote retention, progression, and completion.
Under the supervision of the Director and Senior Associate Director of Advising in the Exploring and Pre-Professional Advising Center, the advisor works collaboratively with campus partners to stay informed of changes in curriculum, policies, and procedures. This role includes conducting one-on-one advising appointments with students in person, by phone, email, and via video conferencing, as well as engaging in proactive outreach to support student success initiatives.
Academic Advisors will utilize proactive advising practices. Proactive advising includes coordinated, collaborative, personalized, and intentional outreach strategies and practices designed to anticipate potential barriers to student success, provide timely interventions, and invite meaningful engagement
between advisors and students. By anticipating barriers, providing interventions, and inviting engagement, proactive advising strategies and practices support improved student experiences and outcomes. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by Student Success leadership.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT
This advising position is within the Exploring and Pre-Professional Advising Center which is part of the Student Success team. The Student Success team is responsible for leading campus-wide initiatives that support enrollment growth and equitable student success through academic and student success programming to promote retention, progression, timely degree completion, and career readiness while closing achievement gaps. Student Success teams work closely with department chairs and faculty across the campus to support student academic success efforts, the implementation of student-centered and equitable academic advising practices, and deliver impactful student academic support programming from First-Year Experience through graduation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and one year of experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
